I bet you're wondering what that ^ picture^ is! Yeah, I was too! :) No worries, I scoped it out and decided to investigate it myself! To my delight I was recently given the opportunity to try this little gadget out, otherwise known as Peel! I'm here to today to tell you that this little piece of roundness will totally change the way you watch tv! Seriously!
First of all, let's get this straight. There is Peel "The Fruit" and Peel "The App". Peel (The Fruit) invisibly controls your entire entertainment system: TV, cable or satellite box, Blu-ray player, AV receiver, Apple TV®, Roku™ and more. There's nothing to plug into your phone, and there's no hassle with network passwords. In three simple steps, you're controlling just about any home theater right from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch (and adding new systems such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus). Peel (The App) suggests Top Pick TV shows for you based on what you watch and like. Instead of a long, boring channel grid, Peel presents an easy-to-use mosaic of your favorite shows, filtered by type and genre in the order you like.
Ok, so enough of all the tech savvy talk. Here's what I think! ;) When I opened the package it came in, I felt pretty cool! I mean, what kind of contraption was I looking at?? I took out the Peel Fruit and was immediately wondering how this oddly shaped thing was going to control my tv. Much to my surprise, there was one only other thing in the box; the Peel cable! The Peel cable plugs into your wireless router so it picks up signals from your phone and shoots them straight to your fruit. That's right, you don't have a bunch of messy cables running all over creation (one of my biggest pet peeves). Simply plug in the Peel cable, aim the fruit toward your tv, start the super simple and fast setup on your iPhone or whatever device your using by downloading the Peel App (free of charge...AMAZING!!!). Voila! You're up and running so you can watch television until your heart is content.
I must be honest and say, we had trouble getting the Peel to work with our tv in our living room! Thank goodness if you cannot connect your Peel to your tv, there is the customer support number that automatically comes up so you can call for help! I was super satisfied with customer support and their effort to get our Peel to work with our one television! Thankfully while trying to sort that issue out, we were able to connect it to one of our other televisions. I'm pretty sure I stayed in contact with customer support each day to see if they could get us up and running. I was even on a first name basis with them (I hope this means that they next to never hear from anyone with problems and I'm the only unlucky one, so they do not have many names to remember). I will say that I was informed this usually does not happen, especially with well known television brand names (meaning, I hope you didn't run out and grab one of those less common brands on Black Friday). In the end, I was able to get our Peel to work on ALL tv's! Now...I feel the need to buy another one so we can have it for each room! ;) Was this their secret ploy when giving me the chance to review their product? lol.
Besides the bump in the road we hit, I must say I still absolutely LOVE our Peel! I'm not a huge television watcher. I've been known to be the person to irk my husband to no end by flipping through every single channel available channel surf. I honestly do not have the slightest idea why people like to use the channel guide. Seriously...WHO wants to sit and read EVERY single title while it slowly scrolls through? OMgeeee....find the paint; I'd rather watch it dry! ;) Peel is great for getting away from that boring guide! You can set your preferences on the App so it learns what you do and do not like. The more that you interact with it, the more it learns and tailors what it shows you! Basically, my Peel knows that I LOVE The New Adventures of Old Christine, CMT, Days of our Lives, and some others! I love that it categorizes everything so depending on what mood you're in, you can easily find what you're looking for (such as comedy, cartoons, etc). I also love that if you're looking for something, you can type it in the search and it gives you every single episode that will be coming on in the near future! For example, right now my Peel App is telling me that Law & Order will be on tv multiple times over the course of quite a few days! Amazing! If I want, I can even tap to remind me of a certain episode! It will automatically set a reminder on your phone! Sweeeeet! Also, let's not forget the fact that you do not even have to be facing the tv to give it commands! You heard me right. ;) For all of those times that you're just so incredibly tired and you do not even feel like rolling over to turn the tv off, this is for you! lol! I can even control it from another room.
I must also mention that the Peel can control ALL of your devices at once, even though it doesn't apply to me and I cannot vouch for these items (I wish I could! Maybe I'll go buy some of these items just so I can take FULL advantage). It is compatible with your DVR, Stereo, and so much more. Having said all of this, I'm sure there are many other tech savvy people out there that are totally trained on this device! I've only been playing with ours for less than 1 month and I'm sure there's more to learn when it comes to things I can do. Read: It can only get more awesome!
