Inexpensive Date Night! :)

Yesterday I posted about taking time to remind your husband or significant other that you love him, and doing the things that you used to do when you first met, right?!? How's that going so far?

Well.......I have something that may help! :) If you're anything like myself, you do not have enough time to take your family out to a nice dinner, let alone have a "date night." Then there's that little monkey on your back saying "why should I spend $30 dollars on dinner when I just got my groceries for FREE" (yes I said FREE...stay tuned for future details in regards to couponing).  My husband and I used to never think a thing about going out to dinner often and how much we spent. Now...I'm a little bit more frugal! ;)

RIGHT NOW Romano's Macaroni Grill has a WONDERFUL coupon that you can use to treat your hubby and yourself! YES! A date night!!! If you click on the above link, it will take you to their Facebook page. Click on the email sign up tab to the left. Once you've signed up, they'll email you $5 off your next purchase, and this evening they'll be mailing out a Buy One Get One FREE coupon! Can't beat that, right?!?!

Ok...hurry along because you need to do this ASAP! :)

"Remind Me"

This entry is inspired by the song "Remind Me" by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood.

As a new mom and new wife I have a lot of duties on my plate. I'm constantly torn and tugged in different directions and never quite feel like I'm getting anything accomplished. Am I letting the house fall apart? Am I putting forth my best effort to potty train my daughter? Did I teach my daughter anything new today? Did I do my husband's laundry? Did I remember to lay out dinner? Did I remember to shoot my hubby that loving text to let him know that his wife and daughter love him? And the questions just pour out!

I can assure you that so many moms feel the same way! We're so concentrated on being perfect moms, that we're quick to forget what got us to that point...our husbands or significant others. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood sing about the simple things that started and kept their relationship going. What they LOVE about each other! Are you guilty of letting your relationship "fall between the cracks" or getting caught up in the hustle and bustle? I'll have to admit that I'm guilty at times.

When I met my husband, it really was love at first sight....or some might call it lust at first sight. Whatever you call it, that's what I had! :) I met my husband in college while working at Nike, and wow!!!! Brian may be shy, but he's managed to hide it from me since the beginning (or maybe I just never gave him the option to show his shy side). I absolutely love everything about him (even when he forgets to replace the trash bag in the trash can). Before he was a husband and before he was a dad, he showed all of the qualities that some people search for forever in a significant other. Brian's a wonderful cook, helps out around the house, always there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needs it, hard worker, has a smile that could light up a room, motivating, he loves kids, he'll make you laugh even when you don't want to, and so much more! Having said that, how is it so easy to forget these things so quickly when you get caught up in life?

Let's make a promise to remind our husbands daily that we love them and appreciate them! I've seen so many marriages and relationships go sour because they put so much effort into one part of their life, but forgot about one of the single most important things. Some of the best advice I got while I was pregnant was from a lady that came into my work. She told me that long after your kids are moved out of your house, long after your retired, long after you've quit coaching that sports team, you STILL have a husband! Remind them often that without them, you wouldn't be who you are today! :) Wouldn't you agree? If you need some inspiration, check out Brady Paisley and Carrie Underwood's song HERE!

Jillian Michaels: First Week FREE trial

How many moms are out there like me that keep wanting to lose weight but haven't been able to? For lots of reasons we put it off, or we'll get going only to stop and gain it right back! *sigh* I know, I know! No one REALLY likes talking about weight loss! Let me tell you this though....

In 2002 I tipped the charts at my highest weight ever! I had to leave college because I caught mono, only to come back as a heavier me with a side of depression! It was my worst nightmare! I hated the body that I lived in and I was truly unhappy. I lived in sweats or pj's and let's face it...I spent more time in my dorm room as the semesters went by than I did in class. After gaining approx 60 pounds, there was no "me" left! Sad, but true! Where did that girl that always played sports go? Where did that happy, always smiling, joke all day girl run away to? She was still there and CRYING to get out! Ok...enough sob story, let's get to the good part!

After seeing my old high school cheerleading coach at a gas station one evening after work, I finally found my answer! She was SUCH an inspiration to me! I went on a diet and well..let's just say that I lost approx 70 pounds! :) I was at the lowest weight I'd ever been, happy, full of life, physically fit, anything positive was in my description (I'll discuss the details on losing the weight in one of my upcoming entries)! Fast forward many years.

My daughter is now 13 months old, and I've been struggling to lose the weight I've gained. I've not been too happy with myself. I look at my old clothes and think to myself "hah, I wish" and get frustrated when NOTHING fits! I kept the weight I lost off for MANY years, and now I struggle to lose 5 pounds and keep it off....Well I have news!!!

TODAY IS THE DAY!!!!

Jillian Michaels has a new program and I'm going to give it a try to jumpstart my routine! (I have a confession...I've ALWAYS wanted to be on The Biggest Loser)

Doing What's Best For Your Children

This entry in in reply to a reader that asked what I do to deal with the restlessness of being a stay at home mom and fill the void of not working.

As some of you may know, I started working when I was 15 and worked until this past October 2010. When I was younger, I begged to get a job because I wanted my own money. With that job came a lot of responsibility, and I learned that very quickly! Fortunately, I was taught by my parents that hard work eventually pays off. I would like to say that I always gave my all at work and never really viewed my job as just a job! I started working at Food Lion when I was 15, and quickly moved on to Kmart when I was 16. My mom always said that you're supposed to get one job and keep it....welllllll I followed that rule for awhile and realized that we're not living in the same decade anymore! Needless to say, I found myself moving up the ladder with various retail companies and loving working with the public. As you can see, I got my start very early (let's not forget about all of those babysitting and sitting with the elderly jobs I had either before I could have a "real" job). I learned that the harder I worked, the higher up I could go....I became addicted VERY quickly! (I could write a book on work, the value of working hard, you get what you put in, etc etc..because so many times I wished that I could just fire the bums that crossed my threshold that didn't deserve jobs...but I'll leave that for another post).

Having given you a small background on how I feel about work, I'll be the first to tell you that I struggle each and everyday with staying at home and not working! Some of you MAY be amazed to hear this! Yes, I absolutely LOVE my daughter and LOVE being with her, but there's a lot of days I feel the need to just rush back to work. I've often found myself jealous that I didn't take THAT position that was offered to me and someone else did and I knew I could do it 10 million times better. I definitely wouldn't call myself a workaholic (well....when it comes to my job, maybe I am), but I'm pretty addicted to work. Or MAYBE it's not the work, but the feeling of being ON TOP or NUMBER ONE or THE BEST. My competitive side has always driven me so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it!

Now that I've given even more background info and given you a glimpse of what it is that I'm lacking (the ability to be able to compete), I can tell you what it is that I'm doing to fill that void.....

BLOGGING! That's not everything of course, but I've got a goal to be the number one mommy blogger, crafter, bowmaking momma there is! :) If I can bring you everything that it is that you're looking for, I've accomplished my goal! Because what's better that getting to read a new mom's blog (aka a crazy lady), being able to purchase all of the items a mom could want but not have to spend a fortune and maybe learn something about some of my favorite products with a chance to win them?!?!

I learned something in retail....it was called a SMART plan....Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, and Timebound....I think my Action Plan fits perfectly! :)

Ok...so onto the other things I do that you can do also:
1) I LOVE teaching Kylee new things! She's incredibly smart, if I must say so myself. I absolutely love when she picks up on new words, or tricks! These are the things that REALLY keep me going and that REMIND me that I'm staying home for the greater good of my child! Being a new mom, I have to remind myself that what used to be good for my family might not be the best thing anymore. So after my breakdown, I realize that it's not really about keeping floors you could eat off of, running to work to make that extra buck and call up another store to remind them that we're ranked above them or top of the company for that matter, but most importantly it's because who I mold my child into today will determine who she is later in life.

2) I coupon! Since I've had to take the backseat on making money for my family, I've come to the realization that I can save my family thousands of dollars by couponing to fill that gap. This is another way I can be "number 1." I love to see how well I can do and if I can beat my previous shopping trip! Couponing is a great way to feel good about yourself in so many ways. Who doesn't want to help their family save money while challenging and beating their personal goals?!?

3) I vacation OFTEN: Yes, I do have the luxury of being able to run to the beach whenever the mood hits, but it doesn't have to be that kind of vacation. If finances permit, I say drive to a neighboring city that has something that yours doesn't have and take your children with you. Take a day trip to the mountains and find a park to picnic at or take your kids to a nice park. You get the idea! Did you know that there are tons of things you can do with you family that cost little to no money at all?!?! Keep following me, and I'll show you how!

Well....It's almost 2am and I think you're probably wondering when I'm going to stop...so I'll leave it on the table and we'll pick back up with another post!

Til we meet again,
Kerry

Moving Right Along!

I'm so excited! I'm finally making some headway!!! I'm hoping to get a few more BIG things accomplished by this weekend, and THEN it's time to start making some items and uploading pictures to my store!!! You will be able to access the store by clicking on the tab above or you can find it HERE! :) Also, look for a Review and  2 GIVEAWAYS in about 1 week!!!! :) YAY! How EXCITING!

Your Baby Can Read

While working at The Limited as Assistant Manager, I got to interact a lot with women and their kids. During my pregnancy I had a lot of moms RAVE over Your Baby Can Read, and I could actually SEE positive results from it! I got to meet weeeeee little kids that had a very large vocabulary and were not afraid to show it off! My daughter (Kylee) is 13 months old, and so far she's doing extremely well and has a pretty extensive vocabulary but I'm wondering what your thoughts are on this DVD series?!? We're getting ready to go to see my in-laws in IL and I'm thinking about purchasing it so she can watch on the way there! My daughter HATES to be in a car seat and so far her portable DVD player has helped a little. I'm thinking "hey, 12 hour trip that will likely take us 14-15 hours would be a great time for her to learn, right?!?"

So.......What's your thoughts?

Marketing Research

Many people have asked me how I get paid for my opinions and who should they contact, so I'm here today to give away my little secret! :)

Marketing research companies are always looking for people to participate in their focus groups, taste tests, survey panels and much more! They're hired by larger, well-known companies to perform qualitative and/or quantitative research. In turn research companies recruit local consumers and professionals to fill these groups so they provide accurate and high quality information to their clients. I've prepared some companies that I use in the Charlotte, NC area.

AOC Research

20/20 Research (Also has locations in other cities such as Nashville, TN)

MarketWise

Leibowitz Market Research

All you need to do is apply to be a participant on their page, and fill out a short survey so they can notify you when a opportunity comes up that fits your profile! I always suggest you be very open about anything you have ever been interested in, so you don't miss any opportunities. Although, if you do not smoke, never smoked, and will not smoke, please do not check that you would because they will only waste their time contacting you! (This is me....I would never smoke...EVEN if they paid me!! LOL) After you've submitted your application, they will contact you when something fits your description via phone or email! I always make sure to save their number after the first time they call so I never miss out! Each company will require you to take a short survey to see if you match their needs for that specific focus group. AOC and 20/20 sends theirs via email, while Leibowitz and Marketwise is via phone!  They will ask you those same questions, quite a few times, so just be aware! :)

Upon completion of your focus group (you will usually have to drive to their location, but sometimes they have webinars) you will receive the monetary gift that you agreed to. Depending on the company you will either be paid cash or with a gift card! I've never once had a bad experience with any of these companies! And the money is great! Amounts vary from 55-hundreds of dollars for just a little bit of your time! :)

When is your "me" time?

I don't know if you've noticed, but since I've started this blog, and my other couponing blog at http://carolinacoastcuttin.blogspot.com/, most of my posts are usually VERY late at night! So I'm starting to wonder....am I crazy? It seems like my "me" time is very late at night once my dear daughter and dear husband have gone to bed. It's approx 2:45am and I'm still WIDE awake!

Did your sleeping patterns change once you had children? I've been unable to find that perfect schedule to fit my personal time in and not still be awake at 2 and 3 am! I'd love to hear how other moms fit everything in and find a balance for themselves for the things they want and need to do! Feel free to comment below and if you want, we can start a discussion in our BlogFrog community! :)

Vocalpoint: FREE stuff and COUPONS!

Have you ever heard of Vocalpoint? It's a place where moms can share their opinions, and come together to relate and make a positive difference! I absolutely LOVE Vocalpoint! The online community has a place for food and recipes, product insight, message boards and lots of other great things! My favorite is when they promote new products and send out samples (which usually have COUPONS)!!! My latest favorite was the small sample box of Frosted Mini Wheats with a touch of fruit!! My daughter absolutely loved them! And the best part about that sample? FREE COUPONS! I received three 1 dollar off coupons and one buy one get one free coupon and was able to turn them into 4 FREE boxes of Frosted Mini Wheats! :) They were on sale BOGO at HT and I combined them along with double dipping the BOGO coupon! :))

This isn't the first great thing I've gotten from them! I've received all natural cleaning products (an entire gift pack), and when I was supposed to receive a coupon for a free bottle of International Delight, they were unable to fulfill it, so they sent me a $5 Target gift card! :))

Sign up HERE today so you can join in on all of the greatness they have to offer!

Impressed by Tide!

I just needed to make a quick note about stain removal! One of my daughter's brand new shirts had a stain that came from who knows where and  for the life of me couldn't figure out what kind of stain it was! It was a HUGE yellow circle right in the middle of a white shirt with the cutest little whale on it! I was terribly disappointed because I tried quite a few different methods of removing it with different products and nothing worked! I was very bummed! Well in my last attempt I tried Tide's new Stain Release because I got a bottle for FREE awhile back with a coupon! I sprayed quite a bit on there and let it sit all weekend while we vacationed at the beach. I washed it as soon as we got back home, and to my surprise....THE STAIN IS GONE!!!! HOLY TOLEDO! They have a money back guarantee, so I'm thinking they're pretty serious about these stains! Grab you a coupon and watch for a sale...because this is something you should definitely keep in your house!!!

First Mommy Talk

So here's my first mommy talk.....It will probably be unorganized and I may even get on my soap box a few times, but I hope you enjoy!

As I sit here thinking about what to write, I have a million things going through my head. I'm thinking I should be doing work around the house while Kylee (my 13 month old daughter) takes a nap. I'm always complaining that the house work is never done and I cannot exist in a messy house. Seriously...how do moms get up and take their children somewhere when the house is messy and you can't find ANYTHING, which makes your mommy job one MILLION times harder and it takes you two hours longer just to get out of the house? Then by the time you do have yourself, your kids, and everything ready to go your child is screaming because it is now their nap time. You know that if you leave the house at this point that they will take a short nap in the car but having them out all day will only lead to disaster! If you're currently thinking that's not me...I'd love to hear your advice! :)
So now that I've thought about the fact that I should be doing something productive (because blogging isn't, right?!?), I'm now thinking about how to get my daughter to be more cooperative since my first thought included my child screaming! Kylee is such a sweet girl! But I'll always stand by my "when she's sweet, she's sweet, but when she's mean, she's mean" stance! LOL! We're talking about a 13 month old that has the smiles that can turn a gloomy day bright, the laughter that will make you smile ear to ear, and overall just the sweetest little thing EVER...but WOW her tantrums are out of control! We're still working on getting this under control. The doctor says she's independent! I think she secretly wanted to say "she's just like her mommy!" HAHA!

OK so I started this post earlier and I stopped....it's now bedtime! I think my million things to do wore me out earlier and I didn't get much done other than staring off into space until Kylee woke from her nap. We'll try this again later!

Here's to the beginning of a beautiful relationship!

Welcome!

I'm so glad that you've decided to visit my blog! I'm creating this blog so that all mom's like myself can come connect with each other on all levels. It's my desire to make a place for us to chat about the everyday struggles of being a mom but also talk about the GREATNESS that comes along with being called Mommy! :) Not only will you find a place to chat, but I will be using my blog for my craft business! With inspiration from my mom (and maybe a little jealousy) ;) I figured it was time to put my hands to work. After successfully making a few hair bows for my daughter, and having interest from some of my friends, I decided that I'd love to sell items that mom's go looking for each and everyday but without the huge price tag! If there's one thing you'll learn about me, it's that I LOVE a good deal! And that leads me to the next thing you'll find here. I'll occasionally list tips on saving money at the grocery store, great coupons that are available, and anything that can help a mom save money! Lastly, I wouldn't be a mom if I didn't offer some sort of advice, right?!? So of course you'll get my rants, soapbox talks, and other advice from the peanut gallery on anything from my favorite diapers (and how to save on them), to the best purchase we've made during our first year of being parents, to hopefully some reviews of my favorite products along with some pretty sweet giveaways! :)

Sounds great....RIGHT?!?! :) So having said that....what is it that you look for in a mommy blog?

I hope that you'll follow me each and everyday! After all....This mommy's got it all, so why shouldn't you?!? :)
